15-year-old vehicle registration renewal fee!

The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued a notification regarding the vehicle scrapage policy.  Various fees have been announced for vehicles older than fifteen years.  Fees for fitness tests, applications for fitness certificates and renewal fees have been increased for this category of vehicles.  The registration fee for the old vehicle has been increased eightfold.  You will have to pay Rs 5,000 to renew your old car registration.  Currently, the fee is only Rs 600.  The fee for the old bike has been increased from Rs 300 to Rs 1,000.  Fitness certificates and renewal fees for buses and trucks older than 15 years have been increased from the current Rs 1,500 to Rs 12,500.

Delay in registration renewal will cost an additional Rs 300 per month for private vehicles and Rs 500 for commercial vehicles.  You will have to pay Rs 50 per day for delays in renewing your fitness certificate.  If the pre-owned vehicle is 15 years old, the vehicle owner will have to renew the registration once every 5 years.  If the vehicle is 8 years old, it must renew its fitness certificate every year.  The registration of the Certificate of Deposit (COD) issued by the Scrapage Center , which is the recognized vehicle scrap center at the time of purchase of the new vehicle, will completely abolish the registration certificate.  The change in fees will take effect on April 1, 2022.
