An LIC agent is insured in the name of 4 deceased. It is alleged that the agent carried out 23 insurance policies in the name of the deceased and embezzled Rs 1.18 crore. An LIC agent has been arrested by the Economic Crimes Branch of the Crime Branch on the basis of the allegations.
Kabiraj Behera, agent of Khordha LIC office. His home is in Jhadakata village under Puri district Kanas police station. The crime branch has arrested him and are investigating.
Kabiraj committed the scam between 2013 to 2019. He insured 23 people in the name of the four dead. Kabiraj kept the policies active for 2-5 years and paid the premium. He then filed a false death certificate claiming the sum insured. LIC has paid Rs 1.18 crore through Death Claims on 5 policies.
According to the Khordha LIC branch of the Economic Crimes Branch of the Crime Branch, Kabiraj's actions came to light during the scuffle.
Nomini's fake credentials were confiscated along with some important documents from his home during the raid. The crime branch also seized documents containing the signatures of the demons. Further investigation is underway into whether anyone else was involved in the incident.
