Odisha tops the list in e-shram portal registration

Odisha ranks first in the country in terms of labour registration on the e-shram portal.  In two months 88,35,572 workers from Odisha registered with the portal.  Odisha is followed by West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Madhya Pradesh in fifth.  More than 4 crore unorganized workers have registered on the e-labor portal across the country.  Of these, 50.02 per cent were women and 49.98 per cent were male workers.

In this regard, Labor and Employment Minister Bhupendra Yadav said that by registering on the portal, workers in the unorganized sector could easily avail the benefits of government schemes.  Workers from various sectors, including construction, garment manufacturing, fisheries, gig and platform work, lifts, domestic workers, agriculture and allied sectors, and transport, are registered on the portal.  In some cases, large numbers of migrant workers are employed.  All workers in the unorganized sector, including migrant workers, will be able to benefit from the government's various social security and employment schemes by registering on the e-shram portal.  The highest number of workers in the agricultural and construction sector are registered on the portal.  India has the highest number of people employed in these two sectors.  In addition, domestic and family workers, garment workers, automobile and goods transport workers, electronics and hardware workers, capital goods, education, health, retail, tourism and hospitality, food industry and other industries.

65.68 percent of registered workers are between the ages of 16 and 40, and 34.32 percent of workers are 40 to above years .  Of the other backward classes and the general category, 43 and 27 per cent of the workers are registered, respectively.  Similarly, 23 and 7 per cent of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes are registered respectively.  Employees can register online themselves through e-shram mobile apps or websites.  They can also go to the Public Service Center, the State Service Center, the Labor Facility Center, and the Digital Service Center at the post office in certain post offices to register with the portal.  It will be acceptable to take advantage of social security schemes across the country.  If a worker registered on the e-shram portal dies in an accident, his or her close relatives will receive an insurance policy of Rs 2 lakh.  In the case of partial disability, workers will receive Rs 1 lakh.
